In 1962, Glenn went to space to participate in the Mercury space program and was among the first American astronauts to explore space and the first to circle the Earth.Barbara HillaryAfter making the decision to be more adventurous, Barbara Hillary ended up becoming the first Black woman to get to the south and north poles at the age of 79.Hillary survived cancer twice and had lost one-quarter of her breathing capacity after undergoing lung cancer surgery.Despite the odds, she began training and through fundraising effort, got $25,000 to finance her expedition.

She has the record for becoming the first Black woman to get to the North Pole on April 23, 2007.On Jan.6, 2011, Hillary stood at the South Pole.

This senior dynamo was inducted in the National Womens Hall of Fame in 2020.Minoru SaitoHailing from Japan, at age 77, Saito became the oldest individual to sail non-stop and solo around the world in 2011.This circumnavigation was the eighth he had accomplished.

Saito started sailing in 1973 and had taken 7 solo trips across the world previously.With this achievement, he broke the record he previously set at age 71, in 2005.His eighth journey started in October 2008 and his hope was to complete the journey in roughly 287 days.However, a huge number of delays caused the trip to take almost four times longer, lasting 1080 days.

Yuichiro MiuraYuichiro Miura is Japanese and the oldest individual to reach the peak of Mount Everest; he accomplished this at the age of 80.Miura had previously accomplished this at age 70 and again when he was 75 years old.This dynamic senior had to overcome a range of medical issues to make this journey for the third time.The issues included pelvis surgery, multiple heart operations, and diabetes.

Rosemary SmithRosemary Smith is an Irish racer, who, in 2017 became the oldest individual to drive a Formula 1 vehicle.This was done at the age of 79.In the 1960s.

Smith was a rally race winner and won lots of trophies.However, Formula 1 cars are a lot faster than what she is used to.Despite feeling terrified and nervous, she decided to go after her lifelong dream and she did it with grace and class.All the previously mentioned seniors are thoroughly deserving of the respect and admiration they have received from people across the globe.
