May is Older Americans Month, a time to celebrate older adults, identify the challenges they face, and re-commit to supporting our older community members. But what facets of aging (if any) are universal? As a 30-something, I wont be able to offer my thoughts on this question for a few decades, but I do hope that when I get older, there are communities like Senior Planet where I can share, discuss, and celebrate aging with my peers (heck, thats why I work here!).#AgingWithAttitude is part of everything we do, but to celebrate Older Americans Month, we want to spotlight a few virtual discussion groups that are specifically dedicated to topics around aging.Aging Discussion Group (Lunch & Learn)Fridays from 1:30-2:30pm ETIf youve joined any other Lunch & Learn discussion groups, this one will have a familiar feel. The group gathers every Friday for an open discussion (sometimes while eating lunch) around topics like brain health, stress reduction, positive aging, and social connection.Finding Purpose, Wellness, and Community after 60Fridays from 3 4pm ETThough this group will often discuss similar topics to the Aging Discussion Group, the conversation can vary.

Topics are typically centered around what drives meaning and purpose for us as we age. Some recent topics weve talked about are: how we celebrate holidays, discovering/redefining new and old hobbies, and what we would tell our younger selves, says the groups facilitator Saily Martinez-Gutierrez.While we try to navigate finding our purpose and wellness as we age, this group is a community within itself; often sharing inspirational stories with going outside a comfort zone and pushing each other to go further.Solo Aging Discussion Group2nd and 4th Thursday of every month from 3 4pm ETAging solo can be a different experience from those aging with a partner or family. This group creates space for those aging independently to share in their unique questions, joys, and challenges!Want to connect with others outside these set times? Be sure to check out Senior Planet Communitys Aging with Attitude and Solo Aging Together groups.YOUR TURNGot any ideas for other age-specific discussion groups?
