According to the Alzheimers Associations document 2023 Facts and Figures, an estimated 6.7 million Americans over age 65 are living with Alzheimers dementia in 2023 and about 1 in 9 people (10.8%) over age 65 have Alzheimers dementia.This disease slowly attacks nerve cells in the cortex of the brain, reducing a persons ability to control emotions, recognize people, remember, move and think.Alzheimers is unique in that unlike the other leading causes of death, there is currently no way to prevent or cure it.Every day, our caregivers at over 100 communities across Indiana care for thousands of people with Alzheimers disease and other forms of dementia.
