Late Junes heat wave in Atlanta, with highs flirting in the 90s, can feel like temperatures in the triple digits. This sets the stage for a scorching July4th weekend. Its hot outside and with the holiday right around the corner, we have included a guide on how to stay safe and enjoy festivities responsibly.Sunscreen (SPF)Apply a broad-spectrum SPF30+ sunscreen generously 15 minutes before heading outdoors, even if youll be in the shade or wearing water-resistant clothing.
Remember to reapply at least every 2 hours.Smart ClothingOpt for lightweight, loose-fitting, breathable fabrics like linen, cotton, or moisture-wicking synthetics.Choose light colors to reflect heat and pair them with wide-brimmed hats and UV-blocking sunglasses. An umbrella or cooling neck towel can provide portable shade while youre enjoying outdoor July 4th festivities.Seek Shade & TimingAvoid going outside during peak hours (11AM4PM) when the heat is strongest.
Plan parades, grilling, or outdoor games for early morning or evening.HydrationDrink water constantly, even if you dont feel thirsty.A general rule: at least 812oz every 12hours, or more if youre active or sweating heavily.During these scorching days, regularly check on neighbors, children, and pets.Never leave anyone or a pet in a vehicle and be cautious of hot surfaces.
Its also important to recognize the signs of heat exhaustion versus heat stroke.Knowing when to cool someone down or call 911 is essential.Have a safe and enjoyable Independence DayBy following these precautions, you should have a cool, safe, and enjoyable Independence Day.Hurley Elder Care Law will be closed on Friday in celebration of the holiday.
